The Studio for Southern California History is now accepting entries from Southern California residents responding to the “My Neighborhood” Photo-Essay challenge. This essay challenge was introduced to preserve and honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela for a better Africa. It also aims to inspire young people to learn from Mandela and to think about how each of them can use the Mandela inspiration to make a difference in the world. This competition is going to be an annual event, commencing in 2014 and it will be cantered on the inspiration provided by the late Former President Nelson Mandela.
WEEKLY ESSAY CHALLENGES – 2015
Using the Dream UP project-based curriculum, students study current workplace trends, reading and analyzing the latest industry news from USA TODAY to identify career opportunities and understand professional requirements. Through Dream UP, students research several career options and develop a career portfolio. The project culminates with students selecting and writing essays about the professions that most intrigue and inspire them. Schools select the best essays to submit to the national Dream UP Essay Challenge and, each school year, five student winners are given the opportunity to live their dream job for a day.
